Thanks to everyone who planned, helped with, and attended Fr. Scott’s farewell luncheon last Sunday. Fr. Scott would like to express his thanks and appreciation to all. It was a lovely celebration for his years of ministry among us.
Thanksgiving is almost here once again, and in keeping with our CHS tradition, we will have an Order of Worship for the evening on Wednesday, November 21, at 7:00 pm, to give thanks for the blessings in our lives. Please join us for the service and afterward for the pie celebration. Bring a pie of your choice to share with others, let’s get a head-start on Thanksgiving dessert.
The Christmas issue of the Flame is almost ready to deliver. Many people have not indicated whether they want a printed copy or will read it on their computer. A list is going around, which is important to us in knowing which way you wish to read the Flame. On the list, please check if you DO NOT want a print copy. You can then read the Flame (in living color) on our website: http://www.chsepiscopal.org. We really need your help in getting the paper to you as you wish to see it! If you don’t see the list in church, look for it on the clipboard table in the undercroft.
One more thing…the office will be closed on Monday (12th) in observance of Veterans Day. It will also be closed Thanksgiving Day (22) and the day after (23).
Have a great weekend!
God Bless
Twenty fourth Sunday of Pentecost
MISSION STATEMENT
The Church of the Holy Spirit (Episcopal) shares the love of Jesus through being a friendly community, participating in liturgically rich worship experiences, and by empowering individual ministries.
WORSHIP NEWS
We are now using the (RCL) Revised Common Lectionary. It updates our Book of Common Prayer Lectionary. We go through the entire Bible in 3 years of Sunday reading. We now are using the same Sunday readings as most of Christiandom.
WELCOME NEWCOMERS
You are welcome to join us at the communion rail when it is time to receive Holy Communion. Our ushers and any member are happy to assist if you have any questions during our worship. Jesus loves you! We are glad you are here.
To Help You: Sound enhancement ear phones and large print service books are available in the narthex. Ask an usher for assistance.
For The Sending Forth of Lay Eucharistic Visitors
DEACON: In the name of this congregation, I send you forth bearing these holy gifts, that (those to whom you go) may share with us in the communion of Christ’s body and blood.
CONGREGATION: We who are many are one body, because we all share one bread, one cup.
FELLOWSHIP
A Family Night with Fran McKendree: will take place Monday evening, Nov. 19, at 6:30 p.m. This event is sponsored by Wednesday Journeys. Fran was a presenter at Annual Council 2006 in Omaha. Fran has spent the last 17 years of his life working under the aegis of the Episcopal Church, where he has continued to explore his calling doing concerts, as a music leader and conference coordinator. It is Fran’s desire to remain thankful for, and receptive to the movement of God in his life. He does this by communicating with others through his music. A biography of Fran can be found in the undercroft. Come join others for a wonderful evening of music and fellowship.
LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Adult Sunday School is meeting in the former pre-school room from 9:30 until 10:15 every Sunday morning. We are studying Christopher L Wilber’s book Welcome to Sunday. It’s a great review of our worship patterns, and the discussion is not to be missed! Y’all come.
Wednesday Morning Bible Class: This week our study continues with the Book of Common Prayer. Anyone who would like to come is very welcome!

Christian Ed now needs; plastic lids. The ones that come on butter tubs (16 inch) or cream cheese. Large ones are okay. Come with your family to the Advent Workshop and see how we use them. Please place them in the shopping bag just outside the Christian Education Office. Thanks! Kristi

ERD Offers Way to Help People Displaced by California Wildfires
Episcopal Relief and Development is working with the Diocese of San Diego to assist with sheltering and provide psycho social support for those whose lives are challenged by the trauma and displacement from the fires in Southern California. While many people have been able to seek temporary refuge with family and friends, the region’s more vulnerable and marginalized populations - the homeless, low income and elderly - are in need of immediate assistance, including food, water, and blankets. Several congregations have already opened their doors to offer shelter. Funds are needed for operations and to provide psycho social support. Once the fires are contained, these same populations will require assistance in rebuilding their lives and finding new homes. To help people affected by the fires in Southern California, please make a donation to ERDs “Emergency Relief Fund” online at www.er-d.org, or call 1-800-334-7626, ext. 5129. Gifts can be mailed to: Episcopal Relief and Development “Emergency Relief Fund” P.O. Box 7058, Merrifield, VA 22116-7058.
