LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

Men’s Retreat at Camp Comeca, Feb 29-Mar 2, 2008; Our speaker will be the Very Rev’d Ernesto Medina, Dean for Urban Mission at Trinity Cathedral. The cost is $75.00 which includes lodging for two nights and six meals. Car pools can be arranged as well as financial help should it be necessary. Contact Dean Olander for details and an application or applications will be on the bulletin board in the undercroft.

“Welcome to Sunday” will not be held today, Jan 27, due to the annual meeting. We will be finishing the book on Feb 3 at our usual time, meeting at 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. on Sundays in the undercroft classroom. Starting Feb 10 please join us as we will begin A User’s Guide to Morning Prayer and Baptism also by Christopher Webber. Thanks to Mother Ruth the diocesan office will be providing the books.

The Nebraska School for Baptismal Formation and Ministry is presenting two courses for its class, which begins on Saturday, February 9, continues on March 8, April 12, and concludes on May 10, 2008. Please see the bulletin board for more information.

Wednesday Morning Bible Class: Will continue the study of our prayer book. Please join us after the 9:15 Eucharist.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Wednesday Journeys Mission Statement: St. Luke’s, St. Martha’s and Church of the Holy Spirit commit ourselves to a combined effort to better serve our youths, grades 6-12, in a safe, fun and challenging Wednesday night program that empowers their spiritual and personal growth. Pray for this wonderful program for our youth.

YOUTH

Valentine’s Day Bake Sale on Sunday, February 10, from 9:00 a.m.
to noon in the undercroft. Youth are encouraged to bring one or more baked goods and our parish is encouraged to buy the goodies (you can give them as gifts!) In support of our Youth programs.

Anyone interested in forming this Christian-based weight loss group please contact Pat Tarleton (292-8684), or Georgette Clark (202-0999) for more information. We need at least six to join. There is a nominal fee for materials.

Flame: We are looking for a production crew to assemble the Spring/Easter edition of the Flame newsletter for mailing. If interested, they should get their name on the list by contacting Mary Ruth (291-7416) or the office, and then they’ll be contacted in advance to set the date and time.

The Wagon Wheel District will be sponsoring its Annual 10 Commandments Hike on Feb. 2, 2008, from 8am-4pm. This year we will be hiking to 10 churches in Papillion. Each year the first full week of February is celebrated as Boy Scout Week. A part of that week is set aside to recognize the importance of each Boy Scout’s “Duty to God” commitment as it is embodied in the Scout Oath. Many churches in the area encourage all youth and adult Scouts to wear their uniforms to services that weekend, publicly recognize them, and incorporate these Scouts into various roles in the worship services as well.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake supper will be held on Feb. 5 from 5-7pm. Ash Wednesday services are Feb. 6 9:30 a.m. & 7:00 p.m. the Wednesday morning service has been moved to 9:30 a.m.

Eastern Deanery Meeting is Saturday, Feb 16, 9:30 a.m. at All Saints, this meeting is especially for Vestry members and those interested in growing the church.

Our search for a new rector has begun
Members of the Search Committee held their first meeting on Thurs., Jan 17. Fr. John Schaefer, Diocesan Deployment Officer, guided the members through an overview of the “Calling Process for Rectors of Parishes.” Members of the committee are: Nancy Beitenman, Doug Clark, Vic Culp (co-chair), Chris Darrell, Carrie Feingold, Willis Gray, Michele Hagen, Del Hazelip, Helen Moffett (co-chair), John Parsons, Rick Sanders, Jared Smith, Kristi Smith, and Jennifer Wilson. As we advance through the process, we will offer you frequent updates on our progress. We will also invite your participation by means of questionnaires, focus groups, and other approaches to gathering information for the development of our parish profile. We welcome your questions and comments as we move through the process. For the duration of our search, the following prayer will be included at each service in the Prayers of the People:
“Almighty God, giver of every good gift, look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds of those who shall choose a rector for Church of the Holy Spirit parish, that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.” (BCP 818)
