Second Sunday after Christmas

MISSION STATEMENT

The Church of the Holy Spirit (Episcopal) shares the love of Jesus through being a friendly community, participating in liturgically rich worship experiences, and by empowering individual ministries.

WORSHIP NEWS

We are now using the (RCL) Revised Common Lectionary. It updates our Book of Common Prayer Lectionary. We now are using the same Sunday readings as most of Christendom.

WELCOME NEWCOMERS
You are welcome to join us at the communion rail when it is time to receive Holy Communion. Our ushers and any member are happy to assist if you have any questions during our worship. Jesus loves you! We are glad you are here.

To Help You: Sound enhancement ear phones and large print service books are available in the narthex. Ask an usher for assistance.

For The Sending Forth of Lay Eucharistic Visitors
DEACON: In the name of this congregation, I send you forth bearing these holy gifts, that (those to whom you go) may share with us in the communion of Christ’s body and blood.
CONGREGATION: We who are many are one body, because we all share one bread, one cup.

Pray for this wonderful program for our youth.

OFFICE

REMINDER! The Annual Meeting is January 27. I will need your reports no later than TODAY, January 6, I totally enjoy putting it all together, but, it does take quite a bit of time, in addition to my daily duties. Thank you so much! Judy

Flame: We are looking for a production crew to assemble the Spring/Easter edition of the Flame newsletter for mailing. If interested, they should get their name on the list by contacting Mary Ruth (291-7416) or the office, and then they’ll be contacted in advance to set the date and time.

The 2008 Giving Envelopes are here
Please pick yours up on the card table (near the clipboard table.) All members of CHS are assigned a member number, but not all members prefer to use an actual giving envelope. If you would like a box and have not had one in the past, you can take one of the extras and fill out your name and box number for future tracking. If you do not find a box of envelopes with your name and you have had them in the past, please let Ruth Richter know or call Judy in the office and we will give you your box with your assigned number. As always, we are accepting Estimate of Giving cards. They are also available by the giving envelopes on the “Clipboard Table if you have not yet completed yours for 2008. Thank you!

Rev. Ruth Jaynes, our new Interim Rector!

The Vestry is blessed to announce that an early Christmas Gift has been given to the Church of the Holy Spirit! Our prayers have been answered for an Interim Rector who will joined us on January 2,. Mother Ruth Jaynes is very excited with this special opportunity to minister to the Church of the Holy Spirit community. She will be with us throughout our search process to celebrate communion at all weekend worship services, most Wednesday morning Eucharists, as well as minister to the pastoral needs of our parishioners.

Mother Ruth Jaynes has been an Episcopalian all her life, having been baptized, confirmed and married at Grace Cathedral in Topeka, KS. She, along with her husband, Larry, who is also an ordained Episcopal priest, became a member of Church of the Holy Spirit in 1981. She was employed at Holy Spirit from 1988 through 1994 as the Director of Christian Education. Ruth and Larry went to seminary in 1994 at the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest and graduated in 1997. After seminary and before becoming ordained, Mother Ruth served the On Track Ministry Cluster in central Nebraska as a lay person. Mother Ruth’s calling to become ordained did not come until 2000 and she was ordained in 2002. She started work for the Diocese in 2004 as Consultant for Faith Formation. She will continue in that capacity on a half-time basis while devoting the remainder of her time as Interim Rector at the Church of the Holy Spirit. She and Father Larry live in Omaha. Daughter Sarah, 36, is in Portland, OR and Christine, 28, makes her home in Denver, CO.

The Wagon Wheel District will be sponsoring its Annual 10 Commandments Hike on February 2, 2008, from 8am-4pm. This year we will be hiking to 10 churches in Papillion. Each year the first full week of February is celebrated as Boy Scout Week. A part of that week is set aside to recognize the importance of each Boy Scout’s “Duty to God” commitment as it is embodied in the Scout Oath. Many churches in the area encourage all youth and adult Scouters to wear their uniforms to services that weekend, publicly recognize them, and incorporate these Scouts into various roles in the worship services as well.
